Steve Jobs has more money than the United States treasury

Steve Jobs has more money than the United States treasury
Steve Jobs has more money than the United States treasury. Maybe the cash-strapped U.S. government should start selling iPads. According to the latest statement from the U.S. Treasury, the government had an operating cash balance Wednesday of $73.8 billion. That's still a lot of money, but it's less than what Steve Jobs has lying around.Tech juggernaut Apple had a whopping $76.2 billion in cash and marketable securities at the end of June, according to its last earnings report. Unlike the U.S. government, which is scrambling to avoid defaulting on its debt, Apple takes in more money than it spends. This symbolic feat -- the world's most highly valued tech company surpassing the fiscal strength of the world's most powerful nation -- is just the latest pinnacle for Apple, which has been on an unprecedented roll.

Its Macs, iPhones and iPads remain hot sellers, its stock has surged past $400 a share and Apple just became the world's largest smartphone vendor by volume.

There's been a lot of speculation about what Apple might buy with its piles of cash -- Facebook and Sony being two of the more high-profile examples -- but the company doesn't seem to be in any hurry to make a move.

"We don't let the cash burn a hole in the pocket or make stupid acquisitions," CEO Jobs said last fall. "We'd like to continue to keep our powder dry because we think there are one or more strategic opportunities in the future."

Offering Uncle Sam a short-term loan is probably not one of them.

Octomom Drugged

Octomom Drugged
Octomom Drugged. Octomom Nadya Suleman says she was drugged when she consented to being implanted with 12 embryos. Nadya Suleman told Dr. Drew Pinsky that she was so drugged up when she signed a consent form her fertilization doctor out in front of her that she couldn't even read it.
Octomom claims Dr. Michael Kamavra administered "a cocktail of drugs" including Valium before having her sign the consent form.

"He wrote something, he gave it to me to sign," Suleman said. "I signed it, and I didn't read it."

Dr. Kamavra has since lost his medical license.

Suleman says she also can't stand the character she has become in the media. "I have the spotlight, I know it's my responsibility (for my kids) to brush it away and get rid of the Octomom character," she said.

Even though she admitted that having multiple children was a mistake, she says there is no other place she would rather be than with them.

"I feel safest at home with my kids," she said. "And I want to be only there, that's my favorite time at night, in my pajamas playing Twister."

Akshat Saxena record

Akshat Saxena record
Akshat Saxena record. A baby in India was born with 34 fingers & toes! That’s right, Akshat Saxena had seven fingers on each hand and 10 toes on each foot. That easily set the Guinness World Record for the most fingers and toes. However, doctors recently removed the excess appendages and now Akshat Saxena has the normal number of fingers and toes. She, however, does not have thumbs. But doctors plan to make a thumb out of the fingers that were removed.
“I was so happy to see my baby as it was our first child,” his mother Amrita Saxena said during an interview. “But later, when I saw his fingers, I was shocked and surprised.”

Polydactylism is a congenital physical anomaly wherein the individual has more fingers than normal. The extra fingers (or toes) are usually soft tissue hanging on the side of the hand or foot. However, in some cases, the extra tissue has bone inside.

Czech Milovice ice ball

Czech Milovice ice ball
Czech Milovice ice ball. It could be in the running to be the world's largest hailstone, but meteorologists don't believe it's real.
The massive ice ball was bizarrely found in the middle of a forest by a couple out picking mushrooms in Milovice in the Czech Republic.

It was surrounded by mud from the melting ice ball - but there were no tracks - footprints or any other indication of how it had been put there.

Meteorologists rejected suggestions that the huge ball of ice could have fallen from the sky and not broken up - leaving everyone puzzled as to how it got there.

In the meantime the ice ball has attracted UFO watchers and curious locals, and sparked heated debate on how it had ended up in the remote location.

Local farmer Mirek Burzynski said: "It would have weighed tonnes - how it was moved here without a lorry is a mystery. There was certainly nothing like a helicopter here lately - we would have noticed."

Famous Royal Mistresses

Famous Royal Mistresses

Famous Royal Mistresses. One thing that struck me as I researched the lives of the royal mistresses who are profiled in ROYAL AFFAIRS was that for the most part, these women were not “victims” who were thrust into compromising relationships with men they didn’t love. On the contrary, they were clever women who, given the legal and social constraints on females during their day, had the rare opportunity to shape their own destiny—and grabbed it with both hands. Now, I can’t say that many of the mistresses I “met” during my research were “nice girls.” Many of them were greedy and grasping, with their hands in the treasury, the privy purse, and the pockets of those who sought to gain patronage from their royal lovers. King George I had two German mistresses who exemplify this type. Lady Castlemaine, one of Charles II’s favorite mistresses and the mother of several of his children was renowned for her relentless greed. But that’s not to say that these women didn’t passionately—and occasionally too passionately—adore their men. And, no matter whether you’d want to have lunch with them, these women—all of them—were significantly more empowered in their day than just about any other women of their era, including the queen-consorts, their “rivals” for the monarch’s affection. In general, a queen-consort was little more than a well-dressed womb whose job was to produce the requisite “heir and a spare” and remain otherwise chaste, maintaining a stainless reputation in order to avoid all suspicion that her children might not have been spawned by her husband, the sovereign.

Worst campgrounds

Worst campgrounds

worst campgrounds. The worst campground location where I have camped with the family was near Montreal, Quebec. We were nearing the city and had been driving all day and just wanted a place to crash for the night. We found a private cg off of the TransCanada highway and thought we would enjoy a nice peaceful rest. Boy were we wrong!
The campground was filled largely with seasonal campers and the few sites that were available were small and incredibly uneven. Little did we know it at the time, but the campground was built near one of the largest pig farms in the area. It's not that it smelled, but the weird little bugs hanging around the pig farm invaded our tent, our clothes, and our hair was ridiculous. And the coup de grace, it was near busy rail lines that had trains "moving and shaking" all night long! I was never so happy when I packed up and left the next morning by 8:00. Well, that was until I had face a torrential downpour and Montreal traffic the next morning. At least it was cheap to stay at for the night... Any other stories? I'd like to see some that top this one!

How to summer allergies

How to summer allergies
How to summer allergies. How to treat and avoid summer allergies. If you are trying to avoid any outdoor activities during allergy season then you are one of the millions of Americans that are doing the same, that suffer from allergies. You may find yourself wondering how to treat and avoid summer allergies to make your summer enjoyable. It can be done with the help of home remedies, medications and by knowing the pollen levels in your area.
Home treatments

You have several options when fighting off allergies, some of them can be found in your home. Know the pollen levels in your area and what time of the day they peak. You can avoid that part of the day and enjoy the rest in comfort. Find relief in your kitchen with spices and teas, peppermint tea can bring much needed relief. Spice up your food to clear your nasal passages; spice is the ideal food to get your nasal passages running. Stay away from any type of outside smoke like pit fires and grills and if you have any smokers in your home they should smoke outside. Use your air conditioner, replace the filters often and keep your windows and doors closed during the peak pollen hours of the day.

Proactive treatments

Take frequent shower when you come inside, pollen can stick to your hair and clothing. Change your clothes and wash and dry them, leaving damp clothes around can create pollen which can escape into the air. Encase your mattress, box spring and pillow with mite-proof covers. Wash your bedding once a week in very hot water. When you dust use a damp dust cloth to keep the dust under control. Vacuum, preferably with a HEPA filter, at least once a week. If you have upholstered furniture vacuum it also to ensure it is free of pet dander and dust. Make your bedroom off-limits to all your pets. This applies to any furniture that has upholstery. If you have leaves that need raking or a lawn that needs mowing then get someone without allergies to do it. Mowing will cause pollen to be released in the air big time and a pile of leaves can contain mold spores that will start your allergies in a big way.

Of course avoidance is always the best treatment for allergies but if you have done everything possible to avoid them and still suffer you have to look towards home remedies or medication for relief. A warm face cloth over the nose and sinus cavities sometimes helps the congestion. A cold ice cloth can also bring much wanted relief.

Medication treatment

There are medications that can be used for allergies but sometimes the side effects are worse than the symptoms and can make you drowsy during the day. Some over the counter meds have no side affects such as nasal sprays, Sinutab, Claritin and more that can bring relief without side effects. If you haven't achieved relief from over the counter medications then you need to see your doctor. There are many allergists to choose from and they are on top of the game when it comes to allergies. They can give you prescription medication that may help. They can offer nasal steroid drugs, shots or pills that can be helpful if you're really stuffed up and congested. There are of these medications that can't be used for long periods of time but they certainly will help your allergies.

Summary

There are many ways to treat and avoid summer allergies. If you are informed, you have the means to make your days a little easier. Soon all your sneezing, sniffling and congestion will just be a memory so become proactive and do what it takes to have a healthier summer and one that you can enjoy. How to treat and avoid summer allergies will make a difference in your outlook on summer, allergy season will not last forever.

Cookiecutter Shark Attack

Cookiecutter Shark Attack
Cookiecutter shark attack. A Maui man trying to swim from the Big Island to Maui may instead become known for being the first living person bitten by a cookie-cutter shark…
…Mike Spalding of Kula was attempting to become the third person known to cross the dangerous 30-mile Alenuihaha Channel when an undersea animal attacked him Monday night.

Spalding had already been swimming for four hours and 11 miles when the animal inflicted a superficial wound on his chest and then bit him in the calf a few seconds later, leaving a circular wound 3 inches in diameter and about 1 inch deep…

Cookie-cutter sharks grow up to 20 inches long and have razorlike teeth — a tiny set along its upper jaw and large, jagged teeth on its lower jaw, Naughton said.

They’re known as “sort of a mosquito of the sea” that live deeper than 1,000 feet during the day and cruise to the surface at night, Naughton said. They normally take bites out of open-ocean fish like ahi, mahimahi, Hawaiian monk seals, dolphins or whales…

…The only other incident Naughton knew of was in July 1992, when a drowned man had the distinctive, circular wounds of the cookie-cutter shark on his back…
